Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc.
The Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc. provides a temporary “home-away-from-home” for children and families of seriously ill children receiving medical care in any area hospital. The House sits across the parking lot from Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee. Convenient for parents who need to be near their seriously ill child, yet, have a place to sleep, food to eat and be readily available if there is an emergency with their child. Health and happiness. Given the opportunity to ask any parent what their one desire would be for their child, we bet that would be one of their top answers. But what holds true for all of us is that sometimes our greatest desire may not be what we want it to be. In cases where parents are faced with the distress of an ill child, our Ronald McDonald House provides temporary lodging and the comforts of “home” for those families.
Our House is available to a family with a child, aged 21 years or younger, that is receiving medical treatment at any area hospital.
Each month, over 20 illnesses will bring a family to our door, including but not limited to prematurity, cancer, respiratory issues, various surgeries, & emergency care. Once a family is registered with us, they may come and go 24 hours a day as their child’s medical needs dictate. The House is staffed 24/7. In addition to a private bedroom, a family can expect to find a fully stocked and functioning kitchen, a laundry area with needed supplies, an indoor playroom, and a fenced outdoor play space.
